19th Century Canton Blue and White Cup and Saucer (Set of 5) Made in China
This listing has been updated to include 4 additional sets of cups and saucers.
This landscape theme with the tea houses, willow trees, sailboats and mountains in underglaze blue has been duplicated many times over in the Canton export ware. It is often noted that the pattern originated in the 18th century. Here you have examples of the earliest pieces dating to the early 19th century. The various firing flaws and orange peel texture of the glaze are typical of Canton ware during this period. There are numerous signs of age and wear on the foot rim including crazing which can be seen with a magnifier. There are a few rust spots within the decoration, as well. These pieces will make a fine addition to a Canton collection.
The bowl has a diameter of approximately 4 inches. The saucer is approximately 5.5 inches. There is no obvious damage to either piece. The condition is consistent with age and use.
