Chinese Silk Embroidery Panel
This beautifully crafted Antique Chinese Silk Embroidery Panel is decorated with a large, colorful phoenix surrounded by foliage and wonderfully detailed butterflies. It appears to be a portion of a larger panel that was cut down and bordered with the blue and black design later. The craftsmanship is apparent in every stitch. The panel dates to the end of the Qing dynasty, possibly into the very early Republic Period.
There are signs of age and wear including staining, likely water staining because the colors are intact. It also appears that the panel was likely displayed because it is a bit dirty. There is also a piece of adhesive on the reverse side that was not removed due to fear of damaging the fabric in that error (there is already a very tiny pull).
The panel is 29 x 18.5 inches.
