Antique Japanese Meiji Cloisonne Koro

Sale price Price $100.00 Regular price

The Meiji period jar is extremely detailed in its design. The symbolic phoenix surround by butterflies are interspersed with flowers and a botanical design on a black enamel ground. Various colors are displayed including pink, white, green, brown, blue, and yellow. As is common with antique Japanese cloisonne, small dots of enamel border the top lip, the base, and the feet. Each dot is formed by small wire cloisons artfully filled in with enamel. The cloisons are very thin silver and gold wire which are almost invisible to the naked eye but easily felt when held. There is goldstone in the design of the phoenix and flowers.

There is one small area of damage on the black enamel (shown in pictures). The lid is also damaged with loss of enamel and broken wires (shown in pictures). The interior enamel shows signs of age as well.

The vessel measures approximately 5 inches by 5 inches.
