Famille Verte Chinese Porcelain Ginger Jar
This Famille Verte Chinese Porcelain Ginger Jar is an excellent example of a late Qing Dynasty piece. It features a beautiful famille verte border pattern around the mouth with vivid enamels enclosing an upper border of geometrical designs in iron red and green. The lower border consists of lappets in alternating yellow and orange-red surrounded by green. The yellow-ground enhances the blooms and foliage decorating the jar. The precise drawing of the artist is clearly shown in the details that remain unpainted revealing the white glaze below. This is an interesting little jar in that it almost appears unfinished.
The jar has a red "China" mark on the base with a turquoise ground, indicating that the jar was produced during the late Qing or early Republic period. The foot is in excellent condition with the expected wear. The jar is approximately 5 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide.
There is a metal piece inside the jar that indicates that the jar was likely used as a small lamp.
