Hand Painted Porcelain Spoons
This pair shows the variations in Japanese export porcelain during the same period of time. Both spoons were hand painted in the early 20th century, one in Japan and the other in Hong Kong. While the serving spoon has a mark that reads "Jiangxi Jingdezhen Reputable Porcelain", the other items in this same set were marked "Japanese Porcelain Painted in Hong Kong". The style of decoration and painting also confirms Hong Kong as the place of decoration. The other spoon, on the other hand, is decorated like many Japanese export items at the time, very hastily to appease the demand for Japanese export porcelain.
