20th C Rose Medallion Ginger Jar 12"
This large, hand painted ginger jar features a gold ground with the vibrant colors typically seen in the rose medallion design: reds, blues, pinks, greens, and red-orange that was popular during the Republic period and beyond. There are alternating scenes of birds among flowers and figures, four of which are ladies with scholarly objects. The surrounding motif depicts scrolls, butterflies, flowers, and leaves. The wood stand accompanies this beautifully rendered jar.
There are no markings and exact age is unknown. The estate representative indicated that the jar was purchased in China during the 1960's. It is in very good condition, with only a small chip to the upper rim. There are the expected signs of age and wear to the foot rim. Measures 12" tall, 8" wide, and has a 4" diameter opening.
