Occupied Japan Teacup and Saucer Gilded Handle and Highlights
This Occupied Japan Teacup and Saucer with Gilded Handle and Highlights set is a very unusual find. The decorations feature classic Japanese themes hand painted in under glaze blue with pink enamel cherry blossoms and gold enameled buds bordered by chrysanthemums surrounded by gold leaves and swirling vines. The cup is eggshell thin and delicate and completely transparent, revealing the colors of the exterior decorations through the interior. The gold may be enamel or actual leaf and is in excellent condition on both pieces.
The diameter of the cup is 3.5 inches and the saucer is 5 inches.
There is no damage to either piece. The "Made in Occupied Japan" is on the base of each in underglaze blue.
