Vintage Carstens Art Pottery
This unusual vase was created by Carstens of Tönnieshof in West Germany, which was only active for a relatively short period of time. The company has been defunct since the 3rd quarter of the 20th century. However, while it was active Carstens produces some beautifully, unique pieces of pottery that will definitely serve to keep the companies name well known to avid collectors. The drip gold decoration was utilized prior to 1960, dating this piece to the early years of the company, 1946 to the '50s.
The vase measures approximately 5.5" and is about as wide measuring across the widest part of the body. There are no cracks or chips, however, there is some loss of paint and residue around the top edge from use by the prior owner (shown in pictures). I was able to easily clean the inside and exterior of the body, but I feared causing additional paint loss to the rim of the mouth.
The Carstens mark is clear on the base. Condition has been considered in pricing. This is a rare piece from a company that is no longer in business; therefore, ensuring that the market will not be flood with reissues or later versions.
