Antique Sancai Glaze Foo Dog

Foo dogs are normally shown in a pair, representing balance an protection. One of the pair is male and the other female. This guardian is the male. The female usually has her paw resting on a pup. This foo dog has his paw resting on a ball. The glaze is thickly applied in sancai colors, green, amber, and brown. The base is marked "CHINA" indicating a date from late 19th to early 20th century.
