In Chinese culture, clouds are considered auspicious symbols, often representing good luck, happiness, and prosperity and are a common theme on porcelain. On this Republic Period example, pink, blue, and white clouds on a yellow ground surround other auspicious symbols in iron red. The phoenix and dragon, as well as the large size of the box, are symbols of abundance and prosperity.
This rare box is very large. It has a diameter of approximately 10 inches and height of approximately 4 inches.
There are signs of age, wear, and use; specifically enamel loss to the yellow ground. There does not appear to be any damage.
