Blue and white Chinese porcelain moon flasks, also known as bianhu, have a rich history dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). These flasks were originally used as wine vessels. They became popular in the 15th century under the reign of the Yongle and Xuande emperors. The design features a round body with a flat base, a narrow neck, and two handles, often decorated with intricate blue designs on a white background. The tradition continued into the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912), with the flasks often serving as decorative objects and symbols of wealth.
This is a pair of 19th Century blue and white Chinese porcelain moon flasks. Each vase has chips to the enamel and signs of age, wear, and use. One vase has a repair to the rim. Please review all pictures carefully. Additional pictures can be provided upon request. The flasks are approximately 8 inches tall and 5 inches wide.
