Chinese Mudman Fisherman Shiwan
This traditional mudman figurine is a detailed depiction of a Chinese fisherman made from clay. He dates to the late Qing or Republic period. The fisherman is clothed in blue and green garments carrying the evidence of a successful day of fishing. He has his straw hat resting on his back and is posed on a rock base. The features of the fisherman are so finely detailed that his face is completely realistic, including the wrinkles of his forehead and the bones of his cheeks.
The figurine is approximately 8" tall and 4" across the base. There is no damage other than the missing fishing pole. "China" and an indecipherable mark are incised on the bottom.
